Sony's PlayStation is my favourite game console of all time! But the way I play those games nowadays is with the smaller model, the PSOne.
|
There's a few differences compared to the original PlayStation other than it being small.
First of all, there's no parallel port or Serial I/O port on this one.
That doesn't matter much though, as the parallel port was mainly used for piracy (Sony even removed it on some of the bigger models!)
The Serial port was only used on a handful of games (of course for me, Doom being one of them). This being used for multiplayer and having 2 PlayStation's hooked up with 2 TV's.
I don't think anyone in the 90's could afford 2xPlaystations let alone 2xTV's! So this port isn't that big of a deal.
Anyway back to the point... Another key difference is there's no power supply in the console, instead there's a power jack and the
power cord itself is one of those brick adapters. You mayb think this is annoying, but it lets you plug it in the car now!
Other than a few minor things, it's fully compatible with the original PS1 games and supports the Multitap etc.
So you're probably thinking, woah this sounds way better than the original! But there's a serious flaw which happens after a lot of use.
The actual power adapter's solder joint tends to crack... Yes, really...
Basically if this happens, you'll run into 2 issues. It may either shut the console off on the slightest bump, or it'll be cracked enough to not turn on at all.
So what's the solution? Well if you can solder, then this is a really easy job and you can permanently repair it!
Simply just add solder around the cracked part of the solder joint.
Now a someone under the name of "voultar" did a really good tutorial on Iso Zone Forums. I'd say check it out!
This is a really really fun console to have, I suggest playing Medievil or Spyro on this thing if you're gonna buy one!
Therefore I rate this console 4.5/5 because it's the best console in my opinion. I'd give the original fat console with all the ports a 5/5 though!
